Master Ji Gong's Compassionate Teaching:
What is true intelligence? What is false intelligence?
According to your standards, someone who is educated, eloquent, and capable is considered intelligent. But in the eyes of immortals and Buddhas, these are all low-level forms of intelligence.
People judge based on external appearances, but sages and Buddhas look at the true cultivation of the heart.
Are disciples intelligent or wise? The more intelligent a person is, the more attached they are to external appearances. So, don't be too happy if someone says you are intelligent.
Disciples, having a Tao to attain is happy. Having a Tao community to engage in is happy. Following in the footsteps of previous senior is happy. Being able to listen to the teachings of sages and Buddhas is also happy. And these types of happiness cannot be found externally.
